BACK TO SURVIVORS

Our core pillars

It is important to understand the different types of recovery women may experience and that every survivor's journey is unique and requires individualized support. Recovery is not a one size fits all and has a lot of varibilities depening on what the survivor went through as well as the severity.

Therapy is an effective resource for survivors as it can provide helpful skills for coping with the aftermath of abuse, as well as offer further support during the recovery process. Other resources, including domestic violence hotlines, support groups, and self-help books can also be helpful in women's recovery.

There are different stages of recovery and Judith Herman, a psychologist, outlines a three-stage approach to understanding trauma recovery.

The first stage is safety and stabilization, which involves establishing a sense of safety and stability for the survivor.

The second stage is remembrance and mourning, which involves acknowledging and processing the traumatic experience.

The third and final stage is reconnection, which involves reconnecting with others and engaging in meaningful activities

The recovery process is highly personal and it is essential to provide survivors of domestic abuse and violence with comprehensive support and resources during their recovery process. This may involve a combination of therapy, social and spiritual support, self-help resources, and other approaches tailored to the survivor's unique needs and experiences.
